Tesla Recalls 2.2 Million EVs in the U.S. Over Safety Concerns – Urgent Font Size Fix Implemented

The recall encompasses a wide range of Tesla models, including the Model S, Model X, 2017-2023 Model 3, Model Y, and even the recently launched 2024 Cybertruck vehicles, according to the NHTSA. The regulatory body highlighted the issue, stating that warning lights with smaller font sizes could make critical safety information on the instrument panel challenging to read, consequently increasing the risk of accidents.
Tesla wasted no time in addressing the concern, initiating an over-the-air software update on January 23 to rectify the font size issue. This update, provided free of charge, specifically targets the visual warning indicators for the brake, park, and antilock brake system (ABS). The Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 135 mandates warning indicators for vehicles with hydraulic brakes to be at least 3.2 millimeters high, ensuring visibility and readability. Contrast in colors is also stipulated, with red being a mandatory component.
The recall extends to Tesla’s innovative Cybertruck, marking the first instance of a recall for the electric pickup truck model introduced to customers in November. The company has commenced the software update for units in production, with a focus on meeting safety standards promptly.
