Tiffany Haddish Pleads No Contest to Reckless Driving in DUI Case: A Celeb’s Legal Odyssey
In a recent turn of events, Girls Trip actress Tiffany Haddish has pleaded no contest to reckless driving, concluding a legal saga that began with a DUI incident in Los Angeles over Thanksgiving weekend. The Los Angeles District Attorney’s office revealed that Haddish opted for a plea deal, resulting in the dismissal of her two misdemeanor charges related to the DUI arrest.
The 44-year-old actress appeared in person, entering a no contest plea to reckless driving, a violation of Vehicle Code section 23103. As part of the plea deal, Haddish is now on summary probation for one year. Additionally, she is required to complete 40 hours of community service and enroll in the Mothers Against Drunk Driving’s Victim Impact Program.
As part of her sentence, Haddish must attend a HAM (Hospital and Morgue) Program, participate in an SB1176 driver’s education program, and pay standard fines and fees. A notable inclusion is the “Watson” admonition, a legal document signifying awareness of the harmful consequences of DUI actions. Haddish is obligated to provide proof of completion to the clerk’s office. At present, no future court appearances are scheduled.
Haddish’s legal troubles originated from an arrest on Thanksgiving weekend when she allegedly fell asleep behind the wheel of her Tesla. Officers from the Beverly Hills Police Department discovered her around 5:45 a.m. on Nov. 24, resulting in charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a .08% blood alcohol content.
Initially pleading not guilty in December, Haddish had a pretrial hearing scheduled for Feb. 14. The incident occurred after she performed at The Laugh Factory in West Hollywood for the venue’s annual Thanksgiving feast.
Despite the legal complications, Haddish managed to maintain a sense of humor, even joking about the situation during a performance at the Laugh Factory in Long Beach later that day. She attributed the incident to her Tesla parking itself after she fell asleep.
In a November 27 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Haddish expressed that the situation “will never happen again” and declared her intention to seek help for achieving balance and setting boundaries.
Notably, this is not the first time Haddish has faced DUI-related issues. In January 2022, she was arrested in Georgia on suspicion of DUI, leading to a modification of her bond conditions to include restrictions on drugs and alcohol.
