Marvel’s Thanos Might Return, Says Josh Brolin: Cosmic Villain’s Possible Comeback Revealed

In a surprising revelation, actor Josh Brolin, famous for portraying the formidable villain Thanos in Marvel’s Avengers franchise, has hinted at the possibility of the character’s return. Brolin, who last played Thanos in the 2019 blockbuster “Avengers: Endgame,” shared his insights during an interview with Comicbook.com.

“You know, I hear kind of like through the grapevine that they’re gonna bring him back,” disclosed Brolin, 55, adding an element of intrigue to the future of Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Thanos met his apparent end in “Avengers: Endgame,” but the character has faced death multiple times in alternate storylines. The Disney+ series “What If…?” and a reference to his demise in the 2022 film “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” have kept the possibility of Thanos’ return alive.

“There’s the What If…? series, and that’s a different kind of Thanos and all that. But I don’t know in the Marvel world whether they’re going to bring him back,” said Brolin, leaving fans speculating on the nature of Thanos’ potential return.

The actor also responded to the revelation that Thanos holds the title of the “most killed-off Marvel villain,” stating, “You learn something new every day.”

Brolin reflected on his initial involvement with the character, mentioning that he originally signed on for a small cameo role. However, the grand scale of the Avengers facing off against a singular adversary appealed to him. “The fact that it was all the Avengers against this one guy, I liked that aspect of it,” he shared on the Team Deakins Podcast in 2020.

The Russo brothers, directors of “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame,” played a significant role in shaping Brolin’s portrayal of Thanos. Drawing inspiration from classic cinema, they referenced films like “Scarface” and “Dog Day Afternoon” to guide Brolin’s performance.

Josh Brolin received praise for his role from his actor father, James Brolin, who expressed pride following the film’s release. However, James humorously admitted, “I don’t understand that movie. I understand the cost and profit. I don’t understand the story, that’s all.”

The revelation of a possible return for Thanos adds a new layer of excitement to the Marvel fandom, leaving fans eagerly anticipating the character’s potential comeback in future MCU projects.
