Katy Perry Bids Farewell to American Idol, Unveils Exciting Plans for 2024

In a surprising revelation on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ Monday night, Katy Perry, the renowned pop star and American Idol judge, confirmed that the current season of the popular singing competition would be her last. The 39-year-old artist expressed her love for the show, citing its connection to the heart of America, but emphasized her need to march to her own beat and explore new horizons.

Perry teased, “I think this probably will be my last show, my last season for Idol. I love Idol so much. It’s connected me with the heart of America, but I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat, you know what I’m saying, Jimmy?”

The singer, known for hits like “Roar,” hinted at upcoming projects in 2024, including new music. When asked about her departure, Perry shared, “I have some things planned for this year. It’s going to be a very, very exciting year … for all popstar girlies!”

Co-judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie were apparently aware of Perry’s plans, having observed her spending time in the studio. Perry expressed her love for them, stating, “I love them so much. They figure I’ve been in the studio for a while, so they figured something is coming.”

Amid speculations about her replacement, Perry playfully told Kimmel, “Let’s just say I’m creating space for my new wingspan.” The departure, however, leaves the door open for a possible return, with Perry expressing her willingness, saying, “Maybe I’ll come back if they’ll have me one day!”

Katy Perry originally joined American Idol as a judge in 2018 alongside Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie for the show’s revival on ABC. The trio was later confirmed to return for season 22, which kicks off on Feb. 18.
