Bob Marley’s ‘One Love’ Rakes in $51 Million on Opening Weekend

In a resounding celebration of reggae icon Bob Marley’s legacy, the biopic “One Love” orchestrated a melodious symphony at the box office, raking in an impressive $51 million during its opening weekend. The film, which delves into the recording of Marley’s iconic 1977 album Exodus and the years that followed, resonated with audiences globally.

Ziggy Marley, son of the late musician, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming response, stating, “My family and I are honored with the amazing response to ‘Bob Marley: One Love.’ Like my father’s music, this movie is meant for the people, and his message of peace, love, and unity is clearly connecting with audiences around the world.”

The Hollywood Reporter highlighted the film’s historic achievement in Jamaica, Marley’s homeland, where it secured the title of the largest movie opening of all time. The $70 million production cost proved to be a worthy investment, as the movie claimed the third spot among the highest-grossing films worldwide this year.

As “One Love” soared to the top, Sony’s superhero venture, “Madame Web,” faced a challenging start, grossing $25.8 million after its Valentine’s Day debut. The film, part of Sony’s Spider-Man universe, struggled both domestically, with $15.1 million over the weekend, and internationally, marking the weakest opening for a Spider-Man-related movie in recent years.

The domestic box office landscape showcased “Argylle” in third place with $4.72 million and the animated feature “Migration” following closely in fourth with $3.75 million. This weekend marked the industry’s third-largest of the year, gaining momentum since the January release of “Mean Girls.”

Looking ahead, anticipation builds for Margaret Qualley’s “Drive Away Dolls” next weekend, while the much-awaited “Dune: Part Two” is on the horizon with a scheduled release date of March 1.

As the cinematic world continues to sway to the rhythm of success, “Bob Marley: One Love” emerges as a triumphant melody, striking a chord with audiences worldwide and solidifying its place as a cultural phenomenon.
