Record-Breaking Grammys 2024: 16.9 Million Viewers Tune In for Unforgettable Night

The 66th annual Grammy Awards made headlines on Sunday, drawing in a massive 16.9 million viewers, marking a remarkable 34% increase from the previous year’s show, which averaged 12.4 million viewers. This remarkable achievement also positions the Grammys as the most-watched ceremony since 2020. The viewer numbers were calculated from both Nielsen’s measurement of linear views on CBS and Paramount Global’s data, including streams on Paramount+, CBS.com, and the CBS app.

Paramount+ experienced a historic surge in Grammys viewership, boasting a remarkable 173% increase in streams compared to 2023.

The highlight of the evening came at 9:45 p.m., where a staggering 18.3 million viewers tuned in, witnessing a memorable In Memoriam segment led by music legends Stevie Wonder, Annie Lennox, Jon Batiste, and Fantasia Barrino.

The star-studded event featured Tracy Chapman’s first public appearance in years, collaborating with Luke Combs for a rendition of her hit song “Fast Car.” Grammy history was also made with Joni Mitchell’s debut performance at the awards, and Celine Dion surprised the audience by presenting the album of the year award, more than a year after revealing her Stiff Person Syndrome diagnosis. Additionally, Taylor Swift added to the excitement by announcing her upcoming album, “The Tortured Poets Department.”

Trevor Noah, hosting the Grammys for the fourth consecutive year, ensured a seamless and entertaining show. Produced by Fulwell 73 for the Recording Academy, the executive production team, including Ben Winston, Raj Kapoor, and Jesse Collins, delivered a night filled with surprises and exceptional performances.

NBCUniversal also celebrated victories on Sunday, with “E! Grammys Live From the Red Carpet” achieving its highest telecast since 2017, drawing in 1.5 million viewers. The pre-show “Live from E! Countdown to the Grammys” and the post-show “Live from E!: Grammys After Party” also experienced their highest audiences since 2020.
