Reflecting on his transformative experience playing Maui, inspired by his own grandfather, Johnson expressed gratitude, calling it “one of the most life-changing experiences for me.” Promising “all new songs” in the sequel, he delighted fans by quoting the iconic line from the first movie, “You’re welcome!”

Amidst cheers from the audience, Johnson was honored with the Spirit of the Industry Prize by The National Association of Theatre Owners before introducing an exclusive first-look sequence of Moana 2 footage.

In the sneak peek, Auli’i Cravalho, the voice behind the titular princess-chieftess, serenades viewers with a new song as Moana embarks on a journey back to her vibrant island home of Motunui. However, her reunion with family is quickly overshadowed by the call of a mysterious new adventure beckoning from the ocean.

Directed by Dave Derrick Jr. and featuring music by Abigail Barlow, Emily Bear, Opetaia Foa’i, and Mark Mancina, Moana 2 promises an expansive journey beyond the shores of Motunui. Joined by Maui and a new crew of seafarers, Moana faces perilous challenges in uncharted waters, testing her strength and resolve.

Set to hit theaters on Nov. 27, Moana 2 follows the monumental success of its predecessor, grossing $687 million worldwide. The sequel, along with an upcoming live-action remake of the original Moana, reaffirms Disney’s commitment to storytelling set in the enchanting world of Polynesia.

While Cravalho will not portray the live-action version of Moana, she remains involved as an executive producer, emphasizing the character’s enduring impact and inspiration to audiences worldwide.
